Windsor Fairgrounds, Windsor Maine

Next up...

Campground:  Windsor Fairgrounds - Maine
Website:  None
Location:  82 Ridge Road, Windsor, Maine  - Just outside Augusta
When: Early June
We used: 19ft Trail Lite Trail Cruiser Camper
Site had:  Water and Electric - SHITTY CELL SERVICE!!!

Notes:

The only reason I put this one in is that it's potentially free..... with water and electric..... just sayin'...... hit and run.  Day or two MAX.

Little toolie road to get there after Augusta, but believe me, there are trucks that go thru there - big trucks - so no worries for the RV.

This is the view looking behind the camper over the service road in between the two camping areas.  Lots of space to camp, no need to park near ANYONE.  Pick your own spot.   There seems to be some campers that are always there, you can tell the ones....

You can see the barns in the back ground here.  The Fairgrounds are HUGE and it seems like every time we are there, there are people working with horses etc on the other side of the complex.  IF they leave the lights off it's quiet and pitch black at night.  The pines above the spots are almost noisy with the constant breeze, keeping the bugs down too.  Bring spray cause if there is no wind you are toast.

This was before anyone else got there, arriving Thursday afternoon has it's perks.   No alcohol allowed on the grounds so pack your cozies.

This place is fine for a safe, clean stop over if you find yourselves needing a spot for the night FREE.

Planning Your Next Trip.....

Hello family...
Looks like this may work.
I'd like to start journalizing our travels, you know, stuff to do, places to stay, things to see and best of all PLACES TO EAT.  Most of you can use this now and hopefully some later....
I've been looking for Campgrounds with cabins and yurts, for those without camper/trailer/RV, that can also handle huge RVs (Nana and Poppie) and everything in between for the rest of us.
Love you guys and hope one day we can all camp together.

This may go in an odd progression for the next few campgrounds, I'm having difficulty moving photos from my phone to the computer.....bear with me

Traveling Buddy.....

Campground: Mountain Lake Camping Resort
Location:  Lancaster New Hampshire
When:  May 28-June 1
We used:  19 ft Trail Lite Trail Cruiser Camper
Site had:  wooded W/E/S   GREAT WIFI!!!
Notes:  We've stayed in this campground twice. The first year we were tucked in the back on site 90 and completely alone.  It was a hike back to the showers but I felt it was well worth the pot-smoking privacy.
I really don't care who knows that I "medicate" myself but the smell makes some people uncomfortable, especially ones with small children, so I try to be discreet.  *This is only a problem because I must smoke outside, Pete doesn't smoke at all. Plus NO ONE wants to live in a tiny ashtray*
This year we were in spot 63, up closer to the office and the hot showers and on pond side.  OMG the mosquitos were horrible (both years).   REMEMBER to bring bug spray and apply immediately because the peepers and crickets make layering yourself in DEET worth it.

I didn't get pictures of the yurts and stuff, this idea came after..... but the website has them.

We kayaked the first year and LOVED it!! They rent everything you need at very reasonable ($10.00 per hour Kayak) prices.  They let us gather our gear at night because we were on the pond before they opened in the mornings. The pond is just big enough to make the row around interesting and sweat inducing.  LOTS of aminals in the pond.  Beavers, Loons, HUGE fish and turtles.  During the week it was absolutley empty, had the pond and the POOL to ourselves.  No, I did not try the water slide.
This year, however.... rainy cold and we had to leave a day early for Maine.  No chance to kayak. So bummed.

This is the pond in 2018.  There is an inlet you can kayak up out the back of the pond and off to the right (out of the photo) are all sorts of small inlets to go explore, that's where I saw the loon.

Peter is standing on one of the small wooden patios over looking the pond, it's a great place to picnic without getting wet in the grass.  Off to the right is both a cabin and a yurt tucked in the trees along the pond and off to the left there is a cabin.

This is our mobile office.  It works OK as long as be both have earphones.  The pads on the benches could use more padding (not attached to my ass) but over all comfortable, well lit and I have a great view. :)

OK Nearby is:

Shillings Brewery in Littleton, NH
https://schillingbeer.com/
Worth the pretty 20 minute drive.  Great little town, well worth a walk thru.  Fantastic well priced food, sit outside overlooking the river, even when it's cold with their heaters and pretty tartan blankets for your use!!  I recommend flights, you can taste all of their yummies without getting hammered - yes, I said that.

Sunday River Brewery  (http://sundayriverbrewingcompany.com/) was a planned stop between Mountain Lake camp and Windsor Fairgrounds, Windsor Maine  They have a full restaurant but it was early in a long day.  We picked up a couple of cans - they have them to-go and did quite a brisk business - and a  t-shirt for Mr. Spillsalot and headed out to have a picnic with the olives, cheese etc that we had already packed.

Isn't this nice?  Right around the corner.  Sit on a log, enjoy the water, balance your food.... *Orange cup is made with flexible silicon from our local brewery perfect for traveling*

Funnily enough if we had just traveled a little farther we would have seen a beautiful pocket park with seats and gazebos on the rivers edge with a HUGE parking lot to pull the trailer thru.  LOL  Live and learn!!

Next up is Windsor Fairground in Windsor Maine!  I think.....💕
